Drawing inspiration from web brutalism, Japanese pop-art and violent anime film, we set out to create a brand that embodied an almost tacky, exploitative vibe, but with a modern, clean and smart aesthetic. As the logo was the only brand element previously created for Kabuki Daimyo, we looked to first find a typeface that could compliment Jeremy’s logo. We found two: Noto Sans, which translates nicely to Japanese and Yozakura.
Next we created a relatively basic, yet modern color palette that evokes the minimalist and mostly monochromatic (aside from the shades of red) color palette found in Ukiyo-e art. To make the brand really do the talking, wherever possible we used an animated GIF or scroll-based CSS animation on the website design.
Using WordPress and WooCommerce as the eCommerce component, we created a modern, clean and simple yet heavily branded website that evokes the feeling of the brand and allows for the desired user engagement.
Fans and followers of both Jeremy’s tattoo client-base and his Japanese, Ukiyo-e art have a place to stay connected, purchase art and stay in the know with the increasing popularity that is the Kabuki Daimyo brand.
